COPLACDigital is a project of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, which combines digital tools with student research. Our course, Divided Houses, asks students to research a secessionist movement and create a website with which to communicate our findings to the public.

Our project on West Virginia secession aims to connect West Virginians with their history by providing access to scholarly research in an engaging format. We hope to aid students of history in understanding West Virginia secession, whether it is for a class or simply to serve their own curiosity.

We appreciate the research assistance of Lori Hostuttler, Assistant Director of the West Virginia and Regional History Center, who helped us by scanning primary sources for use on the site. We are also thankful to Jessica Eichlin, Photographs Manager at the WVRHC, who gave us permission to use some of their photographs.
